Basic Topographic Map of the Czech Republic 1 : 5 000 in S-JTSK (ZTM 5/S-JTSK) has expanded the scale series of the state map work of the Czech Office for Surveying, Mapping and Cadastre since 2023. ZTM 5/S-JTSK is produced from the Fundamental Base of Geographic Data of the Czech Republic (ZABAGED®), the 5th generation Digital Terrain Model of the Czech Republic (DMR 5G), the Geonames database of Czech geographical names, and the Data10 cartographic database. Data are processed in the ZTM 5 cartographic database of the IS SMD production line. From this database, print files with the complete content of a map sheet are generated in PDF format in CMYK colors, as well as raster files of the map field in TIFF format in the RGB color space, with 24-bit color depth, 508 dpi resolution and LZW compression. Additionally, data are exported into vector formats ZTM 5/S-JTSK – SHP and DGN8, which allow a certain degree of editing in GIS and CAD applications.
The distribution unit is a ZTM 5 map sheet, which, in the case of a TIFF raster file and vector data, represents a segment of 2.5 × 2 km, with sides parallel to the S-JTSK coordinate axes. The placement of segments in the coordinate system is ensured for the raster format by text files (TFW) for the S-JTSK / Krovak EN projection. The PDF print file additionally includes coordinate grids (S-JTSK kilometre grid, geographic and kilometre grids ETRS89/TMzn), a map frame with marginal information (e.g., directional information of selected roads, names of adjacent settlements, descriptions of neighbouring states, coordinates) and extra-frame information (e.g., legends, imprint details, graphic numerical and slope scales, and graphical overviews of administrative and cadastral boundaries and protected areas). The map field is further extended by an overlap strip: 100 meters to the east and west, and 50 meters to the north and south.
ZTM 5/S-JTSK contains planimetry, hypsometry, and descriptive elements. Planimetric content includes settlements and individual objects, transport infrastructure, water bodies, boundaries of administrative units and cadastral territories, protected area boundaries, geodetic control points, vegetation and land surface features. Hypsometry depicts the terrain using contour lines from the ZABAGED® – Hypsometry – Contours product derived from DMR 5G, with a basic contour interval of 1 meter, terrain breaks, rock formations, ravines, landslides or scree, isolated rocks and boulders, groups or rows of stones, and spot heights with listed elevation values. The descriptive content consists of feature labels, standardized geographical names (including street names), contour labels, elevation marks, and building numbers. Only features located within the territory of the Czech Republic are shown. Necessary generalization and positional displacement of objects are used very sparingly. The map therefore provides detailed information about the defined area with high positional accuracy and preserves the shape and dimensions of depicted topographic objects as in the source databases.
Product data files are provided in selected formats via ATOM download services as open data, free of charge, under the Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 licence.
Another option for data distribution is exporting data extracts via the Map Viewer application.
To order data in additional formats or other distribution forms, you can use the e-shop application.
